  • 3D – 8Bits

A wonderful collaboration of 3D and 2D graphics paying tribute to the evolution of video games and 3D. It’s a bit long but probably the best quality 3D animation I’ve seen in a while. Definitely turn it on HD if you can.

  • 3D – Fractals

A very neat video taking you through a Mandelbox, which you can read all about here if you are interested in such an abstract mathematical construct.

  • 3D – Star Wars: Solo Adventures

This is a Star Wars fan film detailing the adventures of Han Solo and how he got on Jabba’s bad side. The animation quality is fun and while it’s not Harrison Ford voicing Solo, the dialogue is spot on. It’s a definite fan-service and not the most interesting but is pretty good for a 5…

  • Trashed Idea – 3D girl speed bump

That, my friends, is a 3D painting of a girl for a speed bump. From Canadia. In what sounds like a terrifying experience, the girl’s elongated form appears to rise from the ground as cars approach, reaching 3D realism at around 100 feet, and then returning to 2D distortion once cars pass that ideal viewing…

  • 3D – The Monk and the Monkey

While the dialogue and premise are pretty weak, this short 3D animation does have some wonderful color and character design. It’s been a while since I’ve posted a good 3d short. The Monk & The Monkey from Brendan Carroll on Vimeo.

  • Animation – The Goon

The Goon is a highly acclaimed graphic novel and is currently looking for funding to turn it into an animated film. Here is the trailer they put together.

  • Tasty Jams – Complete History Of The Soviet Union, Arranged To The Melody Of Tetris

The title pretty well describes what’s going on here. It’s a bit long, but the production quality is solid.

  • Animation – Spots v Stripes

Cadbury is putting together a promotion for the London Olympics called Spots vs Stripes. People are asked to choose a side and participate in random activities to collect points prior to the 2012 Olympics. I don’t really care about the contest, but the promo video is pretty funny and well animated.

  • Animation – Day & Night

Day & Night is Pixar’s latest short for Toy Story 3. I can’t embed, so you will have to click the link, but I can assure you it’s well worth it. It’s about 5 minutes long and has some of the most creative blending of 2D to 3D I’ve seen. You will not be disappointed.

  • Animation – Crater Face

An adorable animation created telling the story of two zits on the Moon and one astronauts trials to bring them together in the name of love. Crater Face from Skyler Page on Vimeo.

  • 8-Bit Starcraft

For the gamers. Many have played Starcraft and been absorbed in it’s intricate web of RTS awesomeness. Here is what it would have looked like had it been created in the days of Oregon Trail.

  • Your WTF for the day – Gecko love

Sometimes love makes you do crazy things.

  • 3D – Pixels by Patrick Jean

This is pretty popular right now but there are two different versions. One is an ominous setting where innocent pixels of our past begin to swarm and take over New York to eventually the world. The other version has a rap song to it that really destroys the appeal of the first. I have posted…

  • 3D – Oktapodi

A cute little animation involving some octopi and their struggles to stay together, despite one chef’s intentions.

  • 3D – Nature by numbers

This is kind of slow and doesn’t really go anywhere, but it’s still pretty interesting. It’s an artistic representation of numbers in nature, obviously, highlighting different principles of math and incorporating it into different subjects of nature.
