Vanishing Point

This is an awesome art project that I took my time debating whether or not to post. I was conflicted as to whether it would be well received. It is very abstract and is more of a visual guide to the music, using various simple shapes to just be visual eye candy. It starts a little slow, but give it a chance. I found it on a random japanese site, so I don’t know who to credit.

Tasty Jams – Turkey Cheese Fries

This isn’t good. You will probably call me to tell me how much you hated this song. I’m letting you know that’s OK. Because deep down, I know something. I know this song has destroyed you inside just a little. And at the end of the day, what more can I do?

Your WTF for the day – The Duplicators

Every couple of years Cartoon Network changes up it’s mascot to better suit the demography and their change in tastes. Toonami had a big update with their mascot, KND gave the CN logo a change, and Adult Swim even had at one point update to their black & white cue card setup from a bland pool backdrop. Well, here is their latest update in the face. All of this was done in CG using a program called Meinbender. For more absurdity, check out the rest of the 30 second spots at this link. It’s pretty crazy.

Trashed Idea – White Goat

A person in Japan has created an invention that turns shredded office paper into toilet paper. While the idea is obviously chock full of hilarity, this does seem like a semi-practical approach to recycling. I’m impressed.

Pimp that Site – Batman & Robin

Um. This site probably took half a day to make, if that, but damned if it isn’t funny. Check it out here or make your own.

Where is Chuck Norris?

Have you caught yourself wondering this lately? What has happened to Chuck Norris? Maybe you have, maybe you haven’t. Well there is a clear answer. Go to Google and type in “Where is Chuck Norris?” DON’T click Search or press Enter, click the “Feeling Lucky” button.

Embrace Life

While the message of the video is trite and out of place, the video itself shows a certain elegance and workmanship that far surpasses any PSA I’ve seen in.

Trashed Idea – Butt Beating

So apparently this is a new strip move that is just eating it’s way through the hispanic communities called butt beating.

Of course, questionable dancing has become a custom to the hispanic. I just wonder how old they were when they started practicing…

3D – A.D.

This is a teaser trailer for what I believe is a short film entitled “A.D.”. It’s a 3D zombie animation that left me craving for more. You can read an interview of some of the people who worked on it, whose credentials include working on the game “Heavenly Sword” and the movie “300″. The interview is here. No announced date yet, but I am eagerly awaiting this.

Tasty Jams – Nerdcore

I realized after having a conversation with a friend the other day that many of my friends haven’t been introduced to this new phenomenon going around the nerd-iverse. So I’m going to overload your brains with delicious beats and the nerdiest lyrics you can find.

Role Models – Dark Side of Jim Carrey

I am a huge fan of Jim Carrey.

Role Models – Helicopter Boyz

I don’t know how to really categorize this, but I do find this video to be extremely creative. It all clutches on the new technology in the Nikon COOLPIX S1000pj. The new camera has a built-in projector that seems to work rather well. Go Japan for doing something weird but not creepy.

Tasty Jams – OK GO

I remember first hearing about OK GO a few years ago and while they were enjoyable for a bit, I thought they were a little too bland and generic. While my opinion of their music has improved, I have to say that my appreciation for their creative juices has expanded dramastically. Just check out two of their videos and you will know what I mean. You might have seen “Here It Goes Again” but many haven’t seen their even crazier “WTF” video. Here are both for your viewing pleasure.

Tasty Jams – Parry Gripp

Parry Gripp is apparently the man behind the Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom video that hit February of last year. He followed this up with the video entitled Fuzzy Fuzzy Cute Cute, which is practically a direct sequel to his first viral video. But I found out today that Parry Gripp is actually the head runner for Nerf Herder, which in my book makes his inane videos worth posting. Enjoy the videos.

Two Gentlemen of Lebowski – Stage Reading

I posted a while back about the Shakespearean version of “The Big Lebowski”. Well, it has since turned into it’s own cult phenomenon, inspiring many theatre groups to hop on board and bring the script to life. Well, as luck would have it, Atlanta is getting it’s own interpretation from the Shakespearean Tavern, doing a stage reading on March 10th. It’s $20 to get in, with $6 white russians being served. Details are here. I plan on attending this night of glory and I hope to see some of you readers join in on the fun. The dude abides.

Your WTF for the day – Elephant Shorts

Where’s the trunk? …OOOOOOOoooooooooohhhhhhhhh. These are $40 here. They have some more ridiculous stuff, but I would advise against going to the Candyman website.

(Note: the link is not the Candyman website, just a retailer).

Tasty Jam & WTF – Die Antwoord

I stumbled upon this group just recently, a self-proclaimed “South African rave rap” that has a very unique approach to music. While the video started out innocently enough, by the end of it I was torn between laughter and a level of unease. Not much can do that to me. I found the music enjoyable, but I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more having not seen the video. Tell me what you think.

Due to a recent ruling on a Supreme Court case, the 5 year old company Murray Hill Inc decided to run for office.

Following the recent Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission to allow unlimited corporate funding of federal campaigns, Murray Hill Inc. today announced it was filing to run for U.S. Congress and released its first campaign video on Youtube,(video below).

Meteorologists less accurate than coin toss

I’ve been saying this for a while, but it’s only recently that I’ve realized that someone has done statistical analysis on the subject and proven my point. It’s a long read, so here are some of the highlights.

The prize for the single most inconsistent forecast goes to Channel 5’s Devon Lucie who on Sunday, September 30th predicted a high temperature of 53 degrees for October 7th, and seven days later changed it to 84 degrees — a difference of 31 degrees! It turned out to be 81 that day.

A close second was Channel 4’s Mike Thompson’s initial prediction of 83 for October 15th, which he changed to 53 just two days later. It turned out to be 64 on the 15th.

And

The graph above shows that stations get their precipitation predictions correct about 85 percent of the time one day out and decline to about 73 percent seven days out.

On the surface, that would not seem too bad. But consider that if a meteorologist always predicted that it would never rain, they would be right 86.3 percent of the time. So if a viewer was looking for more certainty than just assuming it will not rain, a successful meteorologist would have to be better than 86.3 percent. Three of the forecasters were about 87 percent at one day out — a hair over the threshold for success. Other than that, no forecaster is ever better than just assuming it won’t rain.

And more. Check out the article.

Anne Frank and Dictionary banned from schools

This one has been floating around for a bit now, but a school in California pulled a recent version of the Dictionary because it carried the definition of oral sex.

Dictionaries have been removed from classrooms in southern California schools after a parent complained about a child reading the definition for “oral sex”.

Merriam Webster’s 10th edition, which has been used for the past few years in fourth and fifth grade classrooms (for children aged nine to 10) in Menifee Union school district, has been pulled from shelves over fears that the “sexually graphic” entry is “just not age appropriate”, according to the area’s local paper.

The dictionary’s online definition of the term is “oral stimulation of the genitals”. “It’s hard to sit and read the dictionary, but we’ll be looking to find other things of a graphic nature,” district spokeswoman Betti Cadmus told the paper.

But to top it all, another school on the east coast in Virginia has pulled a version of Anne Frank’s diary because it apparently had lines about her “sinful lady flower”.

there’s only so much stupid that a girl can handle and I shot way over my monthly allotment reading this one news story: The Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition, by Anne Frank, was pulled off the shelves in Culpepper County Public Schools in Virginia after a parent complained about “the sexual nature of the vagina passage,” according to the Culpepper Star-Exponent. Since 1995, the Anne Frank Foundation has printed an unedited, definitive version of Anne’s diary, in which she apparently wrote some sexually suggestive references, including one about her sinful lady flower.

Once again, a single parent’s complaint has managed to ban a book from a school. They plan on teaching a different version of her book, one with only 70% of her actual diary.
